My interests in photography began years ago as a young lad holding a Brownie box camera owned by my father. Through the years I have harbored a photography interest in bits and pieces. In 1982, I was "Action Photography" runner up, in The Sacramento Bee Newspaper photo contest - a $20.00 award winner! When I first visited the Inverness Ridge in 1960 I realized this was a part of the world where one day, hopefully, I would live. Now in retirement, and a full time Inverness resident, I have the opportunity to rekindle my long-standing passion for outdoor photography. Through the digital camera I gain deep satisfaction when I hear my camera shutter "click" hoping this shot is a "keeper"; hoping it's a quality picture that will portray the amazing beauty of our outdoor environment. My gallery attempts to emphasize Inverness beauty and wildlife and includes many photos of birds. Additionally, I have photographs from the Sierra Nevada's high country where I once worked as a back-country patrolman for the U.S. Forest Service. My goal is to capture authentic wildlife and landscape images and to preserve those images as accurately as possible hoping to provide the viewer a connection with nature, a vicarious experience that will foster a continuing appreciation for our diminishing wild land.

  • Harrier with Lunch
A male Northern Harrier with Vole PRNS. This picture was taken near north Beach on the route to the Lighthouse. Females Harriers are darker.
  • Two Pots of Gold
    Rainbow at Tomales Bay
  • White-tailed Kites
Point Reyes National Seashore has many White-tailed Kites. Frequently they are seen hovering above over a field.
  • Determination
The Bald Eagle is such an impressive raptor. This photograph was taken at the Sacramento Wildlife Refuge in Glenn County. However, this year I have seen at least two Bald Eagles flying over the Bolinas Lagoon
  • Peregrine Falcon
It was exciting to observe these Falcons nesting high along the Point Reyes bluffs. They are very fast and swift in flight. I watched one of them chase away a Raven, turning the tables!
  • Goldfields
Springtime along the Chimney Rock Trail, PRNS
  • Red Shouldered Hawk
    Taken along Pierce Point Road
  • Pelican Yawn
This Brown Pelican is relaxing while exercising his extending his transparent mouth.
  • Camouflage
Where's Billy? I found Billy The Bobcat along on Limantour Road.
  • Tule Elk
Tule Elk - near Drakes Bay
  • Serenity
This was a very memorable magical moment in november, 2005 at Limantour Beach. The solitude was beyond description and is a permanent memory.
  • Journey's End
Winter - Tomales Bay. This is one of my favorite pictures. The rising sunlight's reflection from the boat against a cloudy morning sky makes this picture special.
  • American bittern
The American bittern is often well hidden. I found this one in the Sacramento Valley, Sutter County. Jules Evens reports they have been seen here at Abbott's Lagoon and Glenbrook ponds.
  • Avocets
I found these breeding Avocets at Marin's Las Galinas Ponds. They are abundant here at PRNS
  • Pileated Woodpecker
This is my favorite local bird. He eats Huckleberries in our backyard.
  • California Quail
Pretty male sentry guarding his young in our backyard.
